On a stage.

In front of judges.

And an audience.

In my pants and vest. It’s like school PE lessons all over again.

Blankets and Water-Bottles

So, it’s cold here in Manchester.

I have this horrible feeling if I put the electric heating (or excessively using electricity) on when I’m by myself in our flat so I am now wearing multiple layers under a duvet flanked by two hot water bottles. I have a cold nose, so I fear that the heating may have to make an appearance soon.

This morning we’ve got a heavy dose of light subject matter! It’s another episode of our sub-series Songs That Sound Like Other Songs!

Today, I’m looking at Britney Spears’ 2011 single “Hold It Against Me,” Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” and Joe Satriani’s “If I Could Fly” just to name a few!

I’ve been playing around with a mashup of all of these songs since some time last summer, and this is as close as I think I’m going to get to a finished project on these.

An earlier draft of this video also covered how country music act The Bellamy Brothers —- who wrote “If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me” — briefly threatened to sue Britney, but then it was later revealed that they had gotten the line from Groucho Marx. It was an interesting piece of trivia to me, but their song sounded nothing like the rest of these.

Also, yes, I’m fully aware that there are songs by Enanitos Verdes, Reamonn, and The Creaky Boards that also use very similar melodies, but I wanted to stick with groups that I thought my viewers would recognize. My apologies to viewers in Argentina, Germany, and uh… Brooklyn I guess.
